Dr Tan Teck Wei is a Senior Consultant Urologist in Singapore who specialises in the management of complex urological cancers involving the kidneys, prostate, and bladder.
He is fellowship-trained in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He also specialises in the management of other urological conditions including stones, prostate enlargement, and recurrent urinary tract infections.
To date, Dr Tan Teck Wei has been involved in more than 500 robot-assisted surgeries, building up his volume of cases from his fellowship training days and cementing his expertise in robotic surgery.
Dr Tan Teck Wei believes in the holistic management of his patients, and seeks to journey with them from diagnosis to cure. Dr Tan is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin, making him a popular choice with the young and old, as well as international patients.
Professional Experience
Dr Tan Teck Wei possesses a wealth of specialist experience in the field of Urology. He has previously held positions as a Consultant Urologist and Director of Genitourinary Oncology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Dr Tan’s expertise in conducting MRI-targeted Prostate Biopsies led to his advisory role with the Ministry of Health’s Agency for Care Effectiveness. Furthermore, he has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Clinical Teacher at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Nanyang Technological University-Imperial College London’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine respectively.
He has actively participated in humanitarian initiatives as a member of the Singapore Navy surgical team, collaborating with the Indonesian Navy to provide healthcare services to the communities in Padang and Ambon. It is his passion to improve the standards of healthcare to patients both in Singapore and overseas.

Academic Qualifications
Dr Tan obtained his medical degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2005. He then embarked on Specialist Urology training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Singapore General Hospital, becoming a board-certified Urologist in 2015.
Dr Tan’s commitment to continuous advancement led him to complete a one year Advanced Fellowship in Robotic Surgery and the management of urological cancers at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, UK.
Notably, he was the first non-UK trained urologist to receive this fellowship. His fellowship training was recognised and accredited by both the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and the British Association of Urological Surgeons.

Achievements
- 2022: Earliest doctor to perform Retzius-sparing Robot-assisted Radical Prostatectomy in private hospitals in Singapore.
- 2020: He became the earliest doctor to perform Retzius-sparing Robot-assisted Radical Prostatectomy at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), demonstrating his proficiency in utilising innovative surgical techniques.
- 2019: He initiated the Transperineal Prostate Biopsy Under Local Anaesthesia service at TTSH, providing patients with a more comfortable and efficient procedure that enables biopsy of the prostate through the skin.
- 2018: Dr. Tan further expanded the scope of urological surgeries at TTSH by introducing the Robot-assisted Cystectomy/Anterior Pelvic Exenteration with Intracorporeal Urinary Diversion service.
- 2017: He established the “Enhanced Recovery After Cystectomy” programme at TTSH, focusing on optimising patient outcomes and promoting faster postoperative recovery.
Academia
Dr. Tan has served on the organising committee and as a teaching faculty member for various regional conferences, including Urofair, the Asian Congress of Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery and the Asian Summit on Robotic Surgery.
He holds the position of International Consulting Editor for the Indian Journal of Urology, and he contributes his expertise as a reviewer for medical journals such as the British Journal of Urology International, Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases, and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology.
Interests
When not busy looking after his patients, Dr Tan finds immense joy in his role as a father to his three sons and cherishes precious moments spent with his wife and family. During his free time, he is a self-proclaimed foodie and enjoys hunting down good food all over Singapore. He believes in a healthy body-healthy mind philosophy and advocates the same for his patients. It is not uncommon to find him hitting the gym or playing sports with his sons.
