Dr Tan Teck Wei is a Senior Consultant Urologist in Singapore who specialises in the management of complex urological cancers, including those affecting the kidneys, prostate, and bladder.

He is fellowship-trained in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He also specialises in the management of other urological conditions including:

To date, Dr Tan Teck Wei has been involved in more than 500 robot-assisted surgeries, building up his volume of cases from his fellowship training days and cementing his expertise in robotic surgery.

Dr Tan Teck Wei believes in the holistic management of his patients, and seeks to journey with them from diagnosis to cure. Dr Tan is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin, making him a popular choice with the young and old, as well as international patients.

Dr Tan Teck Wei possesses a wealth of specialist experience in the field of Urology. He has previously held positions as a Consultant Urologist and Director of Genitourinary Oncology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Dr Tan’s expertise in conducting MRI-targeted Prostate Biopsies led to his advisory role with the Ministry of Health’s Agency for Care Effectiveness. Furthermore, he has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Clinical Teacher at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Nanyang Technological University-Imperial College London’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine respectively.

He has actively participated in humanitarian initiatives as a member of the Singapore Navy surgical team, collaborating with the Indonesian Navy to provide healthcare services to the communities in Padang and Ambon. It is his passion to improve the standards of healthcare to patients both in Singapore and overseas.

Education

Dr Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and completed his specialist urology training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and Singapore General Hospital. Awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan award, he went on to complete his advanced fellowship training in robotic surgery and uro-oncology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in the UK.

He was the earliest non-UK-trained urologist to be awarded this fellowship, which is accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Association of Urological Surgeons. He is trained in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Dr Tan has been involved in more than 500 robot-assisted surgeries.

Work-Related Experience

Experienced in MRI-targeted prostate biopsies, he is an advisor for the Ministry of Health’s Agency for Care Effectiveness, which obtained approval for this type of biopsy to be the standard of care for the evaluation of men suspected of having prostate cancer in Singapore.

Awarded the European Board of Urology (EBU) Book Prize by the Singapore Urological Association in 2014 for being the top-scoring local Urology trainee in the annual EBU In-service Assessment.
Selected as the Urological Association of Asia (UAA) nominee to attend the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) Trainee Week 2014.
Awarded the College of Surgeons Gold Medal in Urology in 2015 for being the best trainee in the exit examination.
Awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship by the National Healthcare Group in 2017 to undergo subspecialty training in uro-oncology at Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom.
Awarded the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England and British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS)-accredited Senior Clinical Fellowship for the Guys Bladder Cancer Fellowship Programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom from October 2017 to October 2018.
Awarded the third prize for abstract presentation for Urofair 2019 held on 4 to 6 April 2019. Abstract titled “Challenging the dogma: outcomes following robot-assisted cystectomy in patients with previous pelvic irradiation”.
Awarded the Long Service Award in appreciation for 10 years of contribution and commitment to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2019.
Appointed a Founding Expert Proctor in the field of Robotic Surgery by the Robotic Surgery Society of Singapore in 2024.
