What Each Component Involves

1. Two Clinic Consultations with the Doctor

Your first visit includes a thorough discussion of your medical history, current urinary symptoms, and risk factors. Your second visit is dedicated to reviewing all your results together with the doctor, who will explain the findings clearly and recommend any further steps if appropriate.

2. Bedside Ultrasound Scan of the Kidneys and Prostate

A non-invasive ultrasound scan is performed during your clinic visit. This allows the doctor to assess the size, shape, and appearance of your prostate and kidneys in real time, providing useful structural information alongside your other test results.

3. Blood Tests: PSA and Creatinine

Two blood tests are included:

PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen): A widely used marker that may help detect changes associated with prostate conditions. Elevated PSA levels may warrant further evaluation; results are always interpreted in clinical context.
Creatinine: This blood test provides an indication of how well the kidneys are functioning, which is an important part of your overall urological health picture.

4. Urine Tests: Urine Microscopy / UFEME

A urine sample is analysed for the presence of blood, white blood cells, bacteria, and other indicators of infection or inflammation. This may help identify urinary tract infections or other conditions affecting the bladder or kidneys.

5. Uroflow Test

You will be asked to urinate into a specially designed device that measures the speed and pattern of your urine flow. This painless, non-invasive test may provide useful information about the function of the bladder and urinary tract.

6. Post-Void Residual Urine Measurement

Following the uroflow test, a quick bedside ultrasound is used to measure any urine remaining in the bladder after voiding. Elevated residual urine may suggest difficulties with bladder emptying and can be an important finding in the assessment of prostate conditions.

Who May Benefit from This Screening

This package may be appropriate for men who:

Are aged 50 and above, even without symptoms
Have a family history of prostate cancer or other urological conditions
Have noticed changes in urinary frequency, urgency, or flow
Experience incomplete bladder emptying or nocturia (waking at night to urinate)
Have not had a prostate assessment in recent years and would like a baseline

First Visit — Assessment:

You will meet with the doctor for a consultation, followed by your bedside ultrasound scan and sample collection for blood and urine tests.

Between Visits:

Your blood and urine samples will be sent to the laboratory for analysis. Results are typically available within a few working days.

Second Visit — Results Review:

You will start off with the uroflow test and post-void residual urine measurement. Our doctor will walk you through all your results, explain what they mean, and discuss any recommended next steps. You are encouraged to ask questions — no concern is too small.

Dr Tan Teck Wei is a Senior Consultant Urologist in Singapore who specialises in the management of complex urological cancers, including those affecting the kidneys, prostate, and bladder.

He is fellowship-trained in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He also specialises in the management of other urological conditions including:

Prostate Enlargement
Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections
Stones

To date, Dr Tan Teck Wei has been involved in more than 500 robot-assisted surgeries, building up his volume of cases from his fellowship training days and cementing his expertise in robotic surgery.

Dr Tan Teck Wei believes in the holistic management of his patients, and seeks to journey with them from diagnosis to cure. Dr Tan is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin, making him a popular choice with the young and old, as well as international patients.

Dr Tan Teck Wei possesses a wealth of specialist experience in the field of Urology. He has previously held positions as a Consultant Urologist and Director of Genitourinary Oncology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Dr Tan’s expertise in conducting MRI-targeted Prostate Biopsies led to his advisory role with the Ministry of Health’s Agency for Care Effectiveness. Furthermore, he has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Clinical Teacher at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Nanyang Technological University-Imperial College London’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine respectively.

He has actively participated in humanitarian initiatives as a member of the Singapore Navy surgical team, collaborating with the Indonesian Navy to provide healthcare services to the communities in Padang and Ambon. It is his passion to improve the standards of healthcare to patients both in Singapore and overseas.

Is this screening painful?

Most men find the tests involved to be straightforward and comfortable. The bedside ultrasound scan and uroflow test are non-invasive. A small blood draw is required. Individual experiences vary, and you are welcome to discuss any concerns with the doctor beforehand.

How long will each visit take?

Your first appointment typically takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes to allow time for consultation and all tests. The second appointment, which focuses on reviewing your results, is generally shorter — usually around 20 to 30 minutes.

Do I need to fast before my appointment?

Fasting is not required for the PSA or creatinine blood tests. However, please inform the clinic if you are taking any medications, as these may occasionally affect test interpretation.

What happens if an abnormal result is found?

Abnormal results do not necessarily indicate a serious condition — many findings have straightforward explanations. Our doctor will discuss your results with you in context and, where appropriate, may recommend further evaluation. Early detection generally allows for a wider range of management options.

Is the S$500 fee inclusive of all components listed?

Yes. The package fee of S$500 (excluding GST) covers both clinic consultations, the bedside ultrasound scan, blood tests (PSA and creatinine), urine tests, uroflow test, and post-void residual measurement as described. Should additional investigations be recommended by our doctor, these would be discussed with you separately and clearly quoted beforehand.
